Westland, Michigan – Israeli forces carried out a broad and forceful incursion into Ramallah, Palestine, entering the courtyard of the Palestine Medical Complex — the largest government medical facility in the West Bank, located on land owned by an American nonprofit foundation — and raiding several Palestinian civil society institutions, including the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees.
During the raid, snipers were deployed at the entrances of the medical complex, restricting movement and heightening fear among patients, staff, and families. Israeli forces fired live ammunition, rubber-coated bullets, tear gas, and stun grenades, causing injuries and widespread suffocation among civilians. A child was reported injured by live fire, and multiple journalists covering the events were wounded or detained.
The raid sparked panic throughout Ramallah, with residents fearing escalation as military vehicles and tow trucks moved throughout West Bank neighborhoods.
These actions represent a severe escalation against Palestinian medical institutions, NGOs, and civil society. Raiding a medical complex — an essential humanitarian space — endangers vulnerable patients and violates fundamental protections afforded to healthcare facilities.
The incursion resulted in injuries, trauma, and disruption of essential services, further compounding the humanitarian strain on Ramallah and the broader Palestinian population.
In light of this most recent violent assault, we call on Members of Congress to take immediate action. The U.S. must not remain silent as medical facilities, civilian neighborhoods and humanitarian institutions are attacked.
We urge Congress to pursue targeted sanctions against those responsible for these violations and to halt all U.S. funding and weapons transfers to Israel until these actions cease and international humanitarian law is upheld. American taxpayers should not be compelled to finance violence against civilians or the destruction of medical and humanitarian infrastructure.
The safety, dignity, and rights of the Palestinian people demand urgent and principled action.
