The American Federation of Ramallah, Palestine (AFRP) extends its condolences to the family of Mr. Saeb Erekat, the Secretary General of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and to the Palestinian people as a whole on the tremendous loss with his passing.
The Palestinian community lost a leader and a relentless champion of peace. He dedicated his life in pursuing peace based on justice. He was involved in peace negotiations for over three decades. Mr. Erekat was passionate about of the Israeli occupation and their colonialist power. He stood strong in his position demanding recognition and a just solution for the Palestinian.
As Secretary General of the PLO, Mr. Erekat served as an adviser to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and had been the Palestinians’ chief negotiator in peace talks with Israel for more than three decades.
His commitment for the liberation of Palestine was limitless. The people of the West Bank city of Ramallah, will continue in Mr. Erekat’s footsteps of dreaming, seeking and working together to bring justice, dignity and full human rights for the Palestinian people.
Mr. Erekat was a great friend of the Ramallah people and the AFRP and its more than 44,000 members. He joined many of our annual conventions as a guest speaker, and provided valuable advise to our chapter clubs.
We mourn his death and vow to march forward until the liberation of our beloved Palestine. May he rest in eternal peace and may God give comfort to his family and the Palestinian people during this difficult time.
