Passing of AFRP Past President Mr. Fuad Mogannam

The president of the Federation Mr. John Rukab and on behalf of the our Federation and the Ramallah community, express our deepest sympathy to the Mogannam family for the loss of their loved one Fuad (Fred) Mogannam, former AFRP President (1990-1991). Fuad passed away peacefully in his Danville home in California on September 9th, 2010. He leaves behind his loving children Jamal (Ibtisam), Jalal (Dianne), Basim (Carmen), Zuhair (Vicki), Maisun Totah (Ron), and 15 cherished grandchildren. Fuad was born October 7, 1933 in Ramallah, Palestine. At the age of 14, he came to America with his mother, Khadra. He attended and graduated from Lowell High School, where he played on the men’s soccer team. After high school, he attended City College of San Francisco and UC Berkeley. In 1956 he returned to Ramallah to marry his beloved Mary Misleh, who predeceased him in 2005. Fuad and Mary settled in San Francisco where they raised their family and operated several grocery stores.

For decades Fuad committed himself to our federation and became President of AFRP from 1990-1991. Fuad also dedicated his life serving the Arab-American community and served on the leadership of the San Francisco Club and the Arab Community in Northern California. He was a devoted follower of the Orthodox Christian faith and helped establish Saint George Orthodox Church in San Francisco. Throughout the 1970s, he coached an adult soccer team as well as teams for children aged 8 to 18. Fuad’s passion for soccer was passed to his children, their cousins and friends, and in turn all their children. Fuad will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but all those he touched will cherish the memories that he helped create.

Family and friends may visit Tuesday at 5pm and are invited to attend the Trisagion at 7pm at St. George Orthodox Church 399 San Fernando Way, SF. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11am also at St George Church. Burial to follow at Greek Orthodox Cemetery, Colma.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. George Building Fund.

+ May God rest his soul in His Heavenly Kindgom +
